Members of Nelson Touchstone PLLC donated over $13,000.00 on Wednesday to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department for the purchase of a new, fully trained K9 unit. One of the Department’s long-time K9 units, “Fellow”, is soon to be retiring from service due to advanced age. The new K9 unit replacing Fellow will be a Belgian-born Malinois professionally trained out-of-state for narcotics detection, evidence recovery and suspect tracking and apprehension.
Nelson Touchstone attorney Brad Touchstone said the firm was honored to be part of such an important cause. “I have worked alongside the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department the last four years as County Attorney, and I can attest to the fact that these K9 units provide an invaluable service to our community,” said Touchstone. “They serve as a deterrent to those criminals that may bring narcotics into schools and other areas exposing our youth in the community to drugs and crime. We are excited about this opportunity and want to express our sincere gratitude to Sheriff Danny Rigel, Major Brad Weathers and the entire department for helping us keep Lamar County a safe place live, work, and raise a family.”
